"But Mort LIKE big! Mort LIKE strong!"

  • Dec. 16th, 2009 at 9:23 AM
A week ago, I broke my glasses while waiting for a bus. Yesterday I went in for an eye appointment, and it turns out that not only are my glasses irreparably damaged, but my eyesight's gotten worse. So I'm getting completely new ones; let me just say that I'm going for a completely different look than I used to have:

Who knows what my new glasses will look like? You'll just have to wait a week and a half to find out. ;)

Pat came home Monday night and is here for two weeks. Yesterday when we went to Lowe's to get him a key made, I showed him and his buddy Brisson the geocache in the parking lot there. Turns out Brisson and his family LOVE geocaching. I'd love to go again...if only I had a GPS...anyway, the log in the Lowe's cache still has the entry from when Timber, Laken, Kaze & I found it in the summer of '08.

Tom introduced me to this amazing Flash game called Submachine. It's basically a graphic adventure "escape the room"-type game, like 99 Rooms or The Mystery of Time and Space. Frustrating, painstaking, and joyously addictive; I wish we had games like this when I was in the gifted-talented program in elementary school. There are currently 8 Submachines, FLF and 0-6, and I'm currently on 6.

Speaking of Tom, I'm commissioning a pic of my Catholic friend Marc's newly discovered fursona, a gryphon. As a way of saying thank you, I got the caracal a free Christmas commission!

And now, another episode of Breaking Logic. The bus running by my house is numbered 121. My body mass as of this morning (assuming my scale is correct), in pounds, is 123. Therefore, I am bigger than a bus.

I hope Jennifer doesn't fail me just because I wrote a theological paper for my Drama of Diversity final; the basic thesis statement of "Angels in America" is as follows: AIDS is a problem because God abandoned humanity (for whatever reason) and isn't coming back. My 2 2/3-page paper was all about trying to prove the opposite; I might put it up on here. Turns out this guy Gerard in that class is a furr; out of nowhere one day on FA I got a message from him, quoting a line from the play: "Blue spruces don't grow in Antarctica."

Aaaaanyway, I haven't been able to fix my glasses, so I need to make an emergency trip to the Vision Care place ASAP to get some new ones. I haven't had an eye exam in a couple years anyway. It'd be nice to get some new glasses; I'm thinking about getting some circular, John Lennon-type frames instead of the rectangular ones Pat & I have had for the past few years. PETTY OFFICER Morrison is coming home tomorrow night for two weeks, by the way! =}~

Lately I've been noticing that I've been increasingly OK with the smaller amount of time I'm spending online. Wednesday I wasn't on the computer at all, and I didn't bring my laptop to Perky Cups with me yesterday because I didn't NEED to use it. That's a sign that my internet dependency is weakening. Which is good. Other things are weakening as well, but I'll leave discussing those to my accountability partners. Hanging out with Timber yesterday was a BLAST, though! It was Animal Day at Perky Cups, so we met up there for breakfast then went to Toys R Us and the mall.

I've also noticed that I'm REALLY jealous of a bunch of my friends. I'll let each of them know why when I get to that step in CR, but in the meantime...pray for me?

Today I filled out an app at Pier 1 Imports. First app in a long time. Last thing I need to do for the Central City Opera app is get a physical.

Over break I'm going to do a LOT more reading, maybe try to finish my entire one-volume "Chronicles of Narnia". I'll probably re-read "Mere Christianity" and, just for the heck of it, all 5 Shakespeare plays in my collection (Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, The Tempest, Romeo and Juliet). That'll probably just be for the sake of Jeopardy! prep, really. Still waiting on that phone call, but once I do, you won't hear the end of it. I'm going to play my guitar more, too, especially since "How He Loves" is my new favorite worship song and I've been learning the chords.

Dinner & drinks with Caleb, Alisha & Gabe on Tuesday night, then a Christmas party/game night at Caleb's Thursday night. Let me know if any of you wanna come; Caleb can give us a ride from my place.

That's pretty much it for now. Seeya later, everyone!

Supervisor Me?

  • Dec. 9th, 2009 at 11:06 PM
Long time no update, so I thought I'd go ahead and pass on what's been happening. First the State's Finances have yet to be reconciled. What this means for me, a lot really I don't know if I'll have my job at the end of the year or not. If it is based on gut-instinct, I think I will be there, I just don't know if are numbers will be halved. The good thing about support and service is that they are always needed.

As it is my vacation from the middle of the year, opened my eyes a lot and even if thinks don't work out here, I see a world of possibilities out there for me as I enter my mid-life. At work they haven't fully used all my skills. Recently I obtained some basics on CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and I have been using my facilitation skills in both training and online which has made life more interesting once again.

But what brings me to post is I may be a Supervisor while the current Supervisor is receiving medical treatment for at least four weeks. Nonetheless this opportunity comes with mixed feelings, I personally think I could do an adequate job but I have another idea which I feel will allow me to do a superior job. Still I haven't been asked yet so, it may or may not be.

Anyway that's it, I know not much of an update but hey it is something as we wind down to the end of the year.

Finals and Such

  • Dec. 8th, 2009 at 3:23 PM
Finished my Theatre History I final today! All I have left is a paper to turn in for Drama of Diversity on Thursday. Only got $34.25 for the books/CD I was able to sell back. One of the ones I couldn't sell was a medical terminology/human anatomy book that I found by the dumpster in my apartment complex. Why would ANYONE throw out something like that? I could use it for drawing practice!

To fill the time between now & the final, I'm hanging out with my accountability partner D-Stag's LIFE group tonight. Tomorrow I'm getting a haircut and renewing my driver's license.

Over break, I'm going to read as much of my one-volume "The Chronicles of Narnia" as I can, plus a whole bunch of other stuff for the Jeopardy! College Championship. Still waiting on the phone call saying I made it; I'll get it before Christmas. I also want to play a lot more guitar, especially worship songs, but it'd be fun to just jam with someone.

David Crowder*Band's new album "Church Music" is AMAZING, BTW, as is Joy Electric's EP of covers, "Favorites at Play". I highly recommend both, even if you're not into electronic pop all that much.

And I'll be working on my inventory for CR. That's going well; some events over the past week have had me expanding one of my entries, but it'll all be good. It always is.

  • Dec. 4th, 2009 at 4:01 PM
...I need a girlfriend.

Anyway, finals are next week! I have 2 on Monday, 1 on Tuesday and a couple papers to turn in on Thursday. After that, it's 5 weeks of break.
